Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun’s administration has provided an explanation for the one-year suspension of its law program by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Adetunji Adeleye, the university’s Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, made a statement on Saturday in Osogbo that included the management’s explanation.

In order to punish the institution for starting the law program in 2017 with merely the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) consent, the Council for Legal Education (CLE) halted the program, according to the statement.

Additionally, it stated that the university was fully accredited to offer an undergraduate law curriculum by the Council for Legal Education (CLE) and the National Universities Commission (NUC).

The statement claims that students enrolled in programs at the university’s law faculty are not impacted in any manner by the one-year prohibition.

“Redeemer’s University respects all regulatory bodies and will abide by the CLE penalty by refusing to admit students to the law program for the 2025–2026 academic year.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that JAMB suspended admissions for law programs in eight institutions on Thursday after suspending the Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) program. According to a statement signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communications Advisor, in Abuja, CLE suspended law programs for the 2025–2026 academic year due to a violation of regulatory procedures.

“Prospective candidates into the program may apply to other programs offered by Redeemer’s University, as all other programs in the institution have all the necessary accreditations,” the statement stated.

Benjamin listed the affected universities as follows: Kwara State University, Malete, Kwara; Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State; Redeemers University, Ede, Osun; and Western Delta University, Oghara, Delta.

Others are Taraba State University, Jalingo, Taraba; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River; Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi; and Nigerian Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.
