President Bola Tinubu will not readily hand over power to the younger generation, according to former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi, who emphasized that politicians frequently take drastic methods to win elections.
Amaechi spoke in Abuja at a national conference hosted by the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy, and Development on bolstering Nigerian democracy.
Using historical occurrences in Ghana and Nigeria as examples, he clarified that Nigerian politicians are committed to holding onto power at all costs and that even if the people call for change, power would not be willingly given up.
He remarked, “None of you here can defend the votes.” “Nigerians have been applauding for you, so if you have complained, complain. People had to wait in line for Ibrahim Shekarau to become governor.
“It took place in Ghana prior to the election of the previous president,” he added. Many of us were called in to step in for two days. Why? since the populace was prepared to perish.
“You are talking and abusing everybody,” Amaechi added. No one, not even myself, has power and will grant it to you. Go get a pastor if that’s what you want as president.
In order to stay in power, Nigerian politicians steal, injure, and murder people. Amaechi went on to emphasize the importance of political alertness, saying, “You are wasting your time if you think Tinubu will give it to you.”
