Omoyele Sowore, an activist and former presidential candidate, has arrived at the Federal High Court in Abuja for his arraignment on remarks he made on social media calling Egbetokun a “illegal IG.”

IREPORT247NEW reports that Sowore is scheduled to appear before Federal High Court Judge Liman in Abuja on Wednesday.
Three cybercrime-related charges are allegedly pending against the activist under the 2015 Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, ETC) Act, as modified in 2024.

In a lawsuit filed under the case number FCH/ABJ/23/25, Egbetokun charged Sowore of purposefully and wilfully tweeting remarks using his verified Twitter account, referring to the IG as “illegal IGP Kayode Egbetokun.”

The police claim that these publications were untrue and intended to disrupt peace and order, and that Sowore’s messages were intended to incite discontent and weaken police authority.
The charges will be tried in court, according to Marshall Abubakar’s legal team.

But political activist Deji Adeyanju said the allegations are an abuse of the legal system and vowed to fight back vigorously in court.
Remember how Sowore was detained on Monday after he refused to take the conditions of bail established by the police in response to accusations of cyberstalking and hindering public officials?

The accusations are part of a continuing conflict between Sowore and Nigerian authorities, especially following a widely shared video he uploaded in December alleging police extortion at a Lagos checkpoint.
