Five members of Plateau State’s cabinet were fired by Governor Caleb Mutfwang in a major shuffle.
Although their dismissal was not officially explained, sources speculated that it might have something to do with their poor performance during the previous 12 months.
Architect Samuel Jatau, the Secretary to the State Government (SGS), did, however, confirm the development in a statement.
“The governor has relieved the following commissioners of their duties, effective immediately,” the statement read. It further conveyed Governor Mutfwang’s best wishes to the affected officials, stating, “We appreciate their service to the state and wish them success in their future political endeavors.”
The impacted commissioners and their ministries include Tourism and Hospitality Commissioner Jamila Tukur, Youth and Sports Commissioner Noel Nkup, and Budget and Economic Planning Commissioner Chrysanthus Dawam.
Sule Musa, the commissioner of commerce and industry, and Obed Goselle, the head of science and technology, were among the others.
Notably, Dawam and Tukur were both suspended for three months for unspecified reasons last year.
Joyce Ramnap from Langtang South, Sylvanus Dongtoe from Shendam, Nicholas Baamlong from Qua’an Pam, Cornelius Doeyok from Qua’an Local Government Area, and Sunday Alex from Bassa Local Government Area were also authorized by the governor to serve as Commissioners.
We expressed our gratitude to the former Commissioners and wished them well in their future endeavors.
Discussions about possible replacements and the wider ramifications of the cabinet reshuffle have been triggered by this development in political circles.
