In Rajkot, England defeated India by 26 runs thanks to a potent bowling display, extending the T20 series.

After losing the first two games of the five-match series, England needed to win the third Twenty20 match to avoid losing as soon as possible.

On a good surface, England made what seemed to be a below-par 171-9 thanks to a 28-ball 51 from Ben Duckett and a 43 from Liam Livingstone that included five sixes.

However, India was kept behind the pace by an outstanding performance from their bowling lineup, and the host team finished at 145-9, well short of their objective.

Duckett helped the tourists get off to a good start after being put into bat, helping them reach 83-1 in the ninth over.

However, Buttler’s decision to be caught behind on review for 24 and Duckett’s subsequent hole out to mid-wicket off Axar Patel’s bowling shifted the tide of the innings in India’s favour.

Varun Chakravarthy’s first victim was Buttler, who was bowled well by the leg-spinner to capture 5-24 as England lost 8-60.

India steadily lost wickets during their innings, and the best of the five England bowlers that took wickets was Jamie Overton, who claimed 3-24. Despite leading India’s innings in the second half, Hardik Pandya’s slow 40 from 35 did not turn the tide of the contest in the hosts’ favor.

The game ended at a struggle when Buttler caught him at long-on off Overton, and England sealed the victory.

The fourth match of the series is in Pune on Friday (13:30 GMT).
