Sunday Echege, a 33-year-old man who lived in Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in Ibagwa-Ani village, Nsukka LGA, was arrested by the Enugu State Police Command on January 26, 2025, through its agents assigned to Okpuje Division, for cutting his wife Chinonso Echege’s left wrist.

Law-abiding community members helped make the arrest possible, and the suspect’s machete was found to be the weapon used in the crime.

The defendant, who has confessed to the crime, stated that he acted because he suspected his wife of having extramarital affairs, according to preliminary investigations.

SP Daniel Ndukwe, the command spokesperson, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect will be charged in court as the investigations are over.

Ndukwe further stated that the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has been instructed by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, to guarantee a comprehensive and prompt investigation, which will be followed by the suspect’s prosecution. In addition, he advised couples to settle their problems amicably and legally rather than turning to violent criminal activity.
