The official inauguration of Old Ojo (Phase 1) Road in Oriade Local Council Development Area, LCDA of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, is scheduled for Tuesday, marking the beginning of yet another batch of projects by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.Irede, Navy Town, and Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa) Roads, all located in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area (LGA), are the other three that will also be put into service.
In a statement released on Monday, Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso emphasized that the official transfer further demonstrates Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to implementing the administration’s THEMES+ Agenda’s transportation pillar, which calls for the construction of roads as vital infrastructure to sustain economic activity.
Irede Road is a 2.20km road off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway that ends at the Irede Jetty, where water is transported to the riverine communities of Ibasa, Ibeshe, Ilashe, and Imoore in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.
The recently reconstructed roads connect the rail component on the Lagos Badagry Expressway to the Inland Waterways terminal with significant links to residential and commercial areas.
Irede, Navy Town, Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa), and Old Ojo (Phase 1) Roads offer a link to both the Lagos Blue Line Rail on the Lagos Badagry Expressway and the Water component of the multi-modal transportation initiative with numerous jetties along the axis.
The main thoroughfare that connects Tank Farms and Industries in Ijegun Egba, a significant petroleum products depot along the corridor, to and from the area is Mumuni Adio Road. About 40 years ago, it was built as a semi-urban road.
Central Bank Estate, Training School, and Navy Town are all connected to the Old Ojo Road by Navy Town Road, which also leads to Ijegun Imoren Jetty.
Old Ojo Road was a single carriageway that was first built in the early 1960s. It had deteriorated pavement, an average width of 10 meters, and inefficient drains.
The government of Mr. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, approved the rehabilitation and upgrading of these roads to a standard that will last throughout time due to their strategic economic importance.
As promised to Lagosians, Omotoso said, “Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration will continue to upgrade old roads and build new ones for the benefit of residents.”
