Betty Otimenyin became Edo State’s first female police commissioner on Monday.

Ms Otimenyin arrived at the Police Command headquarters in Edo shortly before 10 a.m., when she viewed the guard mounted in her honour.

The commissioner of police, the 49th to be sent to the state, was greeted by command officers.

Otimenyin succeeded Umoru Ozigi, who retired from the army on Saturday after reaching the obligatory retirement age of 60.

In a brief chat with journalists, the police chief, who is also from Edo, stated that she will work hard to eliminate crime in the South-South state.

“I will do a lot of things till the crime rate drops.”

“We will also investigate extortion among the command’s men and officers. “The Inspector-General of Police frowns at it,” she explained.

According to her, the command would be stricter about violence against women and children. According to NAN, Otimenyin joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant of Police (ASP) in 1992.

Before her redeployment to Edo, she worked in a variety of commands, including the Force Intelligence Department (FID) as Commissioner of Police and Administration.
