The US Senate has confirmed Kristi Noem as the new Secretary of Homeland Security, with a bipartisan vote of 59-34.

As the first female governor of South Dakota and a four-term congresswoman, Noem will now lead the Department of Homeland Security, overseeing immigration, customs, emergency management, and the security service .

During her confirmation hearing, Noem emphasized the need to secure US borders against illegal trafficking and immigration, safeguard critical infrastructure, and protect against cyberattacks, natural disasters, and terrorism.

She also prioritized removing criminal aliens from US streets and tackling “homegrown terrorism” without political bias in disaster relief efforts. As a longtime Trump ally,

Noem’s appointment aligns with the president’s push to crack down on irregular immigration.

Her role will likely work in tandem with Tom Homan, the “border czar,” who has been emphasizing the need to strengthen Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to carry out raids against undocumented immigrants nationwide.
