Two persons, including a 45-year-old man and an unnamed female passenger, have died in horrific incidents on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway’s Long Bridge and Sagamu sectors, while four others have been injured.
The separate incidents happened on Friday afternoon, according to information released by the Ogun State Police Command on Saturday night.
A Volkswagen bus with registration number LSR 793 YF and 14 passengers was heading toward Ibadan when one of its front tires unexpectedly exploded on the Long Bridge, according to command spokesperson Omolola Odutola.

The bus violently swerved, crashed into the road median, and somersaulted several times as the driver lost control of the steering in a desperate attempt to restore control.
Three women and one guy were injured to varied degrees, while one unnamed female passenger unfortunately died on the scene, according to Odutola. For immediate medical care, they were sent to Magboro’s A-Z Private Hospital.

She said, “Traffic personnel from the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) arrived at the scene, conducted thorough assessments, took photographs, and sketched the accident site. The deceased was respectfully removed, and her body deposited at the Real Divine Mortuary in Ibafo for an autopsy.
“The wrecked bus was promptly cleared to prevent further obstruction and transported to the station for inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office.”
Similarly, a 42-year-old passenger named Saka Alaigbade was killed in a motor vehicle accident on the Sagamu corridor close to the En-Salam Filling Station on the expressway.
Saka was trapped in the debris. According to the command, the collision involved a Cabstar pickup van with registration number AGL 904 AP and a Volvo truck with registration number FZE 2350 G that was laden with cargo.
According to reports, the driver of the pickup truck, Tope Kolawole of Balogun Quarters, Owode-Egba, Ogun State, lost control of both cars while they were moving from Lagos State towards Ibadan.

Saka was stuck in the debris as the pickup van crashed into the back of the truck, inflicting serious damage to the smaller car.
Odutola said, “Emergency responders and concerned bystanders rushed him to Idera Private Hospital, but the injuries proved fatal. The doctor on duty pronounced him dead upon arrival.
“The victim’s body was later handed over to grieving family members, who endured the heart-wrenching task of retrieving their loved one’s remains. The Cabstar pickup van was left badly mangled, serving as a grim reminder of the collision.
“Both vehicles were recovered and moved to the Sagamu MTD Police Office for further investigation and inspection by the Vehicle Inspection Office.”Uthman Salami.
