Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has directed contractors working on some failing sections of the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi highway to complete the project before the rainy season begins.

On Saturday, Okpebholo and his entourage were on their way to Irrua, in the state’s Esan Central Local Government Area, when he made a quick stoppage at multiple portions of the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi highway to examine the amount of repairs done thus far, while asking contractors to hurry up work.

The Edo State Government is in charge of the ongoing palliative work on the failed parts of the road.

Okpebholo talked with the contractors at both the Obadan and Okpoji intersections, asking whether there were any issues. He urged them to do the project in accordance with the contractual parameters.

The governor stated, “This is to charge contractors handling some failed sections of the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi highway to ensure that the project is completed before the rainy season begins.”

“We want to assure everyone that the government is doing everything possible to ensure that these roads are motorable.”

The governor inspected Ugha, Ehor, Ihie, Utene, Igieduma, and Okemuen communities. Others included a power line off Ukhun Road, Eguare Ekpoma, Iruekpen, Idumebo, and the Okpoji Junction, among others.

Residents of the Power Line off Ukhun Road, Eguare in Ekpoma, where the highway had been entirely cut off, praised Okpebholo and thanked him for rescuing them and ensuring that they were not shut off from the rest of the state.

A large crowd of citizens greeted the Governor at Okpoji Junction in Ekpoma and praised his government for the excellence of its work.

They told him that they would continue to support his government so that he could give the rewards of democracy to the Edo people.

Mr. Christian Obi, a student at Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma, expressed satisfaction with the repairs to the failed portion at Power Line, off Ukhun Road, Eguare Ekpoma, and praised the Governor for returning the area, which was nearly cut off from the rest of the state.

Mrs. Margaret Agbonzele, speaking at the Okpoji junction part of the road, said the governor has placed a smile on their faces by resolving the issues along that route.
