The Academy’s Administrative Department will be named in honour of Aminu Salisu, the officer who was assassinated by a suspected online scammer in Anambra, per a directive from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

This was revealed at the 2024 EFCC Awards and Recognition ceremony in Abuja on Saturday by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede.

On January 17, Salisu, an EFCC Assistant Superintendent, was shot dead while performing his official duties by Joshua Ikechukwu, a suspected online scammer.

Olukoyede also promised that justice would be served and that the law would be applied against Salisu’s killer.

He declared that the panel will make every effort to guarantee that the labour of those who died while performing their duties was compensated.

The head of the EFCC stated that the agency would not overlook the families of brave officials who died while performing their duties.

He declared that in spite of the difficulties and resistance it encounters, the commission would not give up its fight against financial crimes in the nation.

“We are not going to relent in our fight against financial crimes in Nigeria.

So, I want to encourage you, and I want to let you know that for every officer who has lost his life in the line of duty or every officer who has been fatally injured in the line of duty, we are not going to forget.

”I’d like to announce, in honor of our gallant officer who has passed on, that I’m going to direct that the administrative building of EFCC Academy, Karu, Abuja, should be named after Aminu Salisu,” he said.

He stated that he would submit a request to the management suggesting that all those who died or suffered fatal injuries be remembered.

“Those who have been injured, we are no longer going to leave them alone; I will not leave them.

“We will not leave their families alone; we will do everything possible to support them and to support their families,” he added.

In order to cleanse the country of financial crimes, he also praised the staff members who received various prizes and urged them to persevere.

“Today is one of the most defining moments in the annals of our agency.

“We are here together to honour officers who have done well in the last year.

“We are proud of you all for your commitments to the core values of the EFCC, which are professionalism, courage, and integrity.

“Your collective efforts ensure that the commission retains its position as Nigeria’s most effective anti-corruption agency.

“We actually broke new ground in terms of records and convictions in 2024.

“In the future, we can look back and recall that 2024 is the year our agency made history with the single largest property confiscated and the single most significant arrests in an operation in Nigeria,” he stated.
