Prof. Olisaemeka Chukwuma, a lecturer at Delta State University in Abraka, was shot and died.
It was learned that on Friday night, January 24, Chukwuma, 56, went back to his hometown of Umueji in Asaba, Delta State, to spend the weekend after the assassins killed him at his home.
Prof. Chukuwuma generally comes home every weekend and it appears the assailants were aware of this.
On Facebook, friends and coworkers have expressed their sorrow and urged the authorities to find his killers.
SP Bright Edafe, the public relations officer for the Delta State Police, confirmed the murder and stated that the police are investigating the matter in order to apprehend the culprits.
