The Omoluabi Progressives, led by former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, have announced their desire to leave the All Progressives Congress.
According to a statement signed by the group’s Organising and Publicity Secretary, Oluwaseun Abosede, and acquired in Osogbo on Sunday, stakeholders from the state’s 332 wards resolved to abandon the APC during the group’s monthly meeting in Ilesa.
The statement stated many reasons for the decision, including charges of ostracism, member suspension and expulsion without a fair hearing, and the group’s alleged neglect and denigration within the APC structure.
Abosede also expressed discontent with the party’s handling of internal conflicts, which the group argued contributed to APC’s poor performance in the last election circle.
According to the group, this has drastically reduced the party’s popularity and strength in Osun State.
“The members were put to a voice vote by the leadership of the group, where they unanimously affirmed their readiness to switch allegiance to another political platform ahead of the 2026 governorship election,” according to the statement.
During the meeting, Aregbesola, the immediate former Minister of Interior, praised members of the group for their dedication to the ideals of integrity, character, and good governance.
He challenged them to be diligent in repositioning the Omoluabi Progressives for the future.
Aregbesola commented on the group’s decision to leave the APC, saying it was the start of a new road toward establishing responsible leadership in Osun.
“I am indeed happy that all of you have spoken with one voice— a united front to lead the way to our collective victory in the journey ahead,” Aregbesola told the crowd.
He continued, “Our aim is to increase the prosperity of our beloved state via responsible leadership. The path we’ve selected is smooth, reassuring, and filled with favorable tides that will propel Osun to greatness. Therefore, you must demonstrate more devotion and attract genuine people who are willing to tread this route of righteousness with us.”
He assured the participants that the Omoluabi Progressives’ continuous efforts to properly position themselves for future challenges would shortly bear fruit.
“We welcome anyone, regardless of political, religious, or socio-cultural inclinations. We have the numbers, strength, and political savvy to give leadership that will make Osun the envy of its competitors. “We will succeed by God’s grace,” Aregbesola concluded.
