Residents of the Federal Capital Territory are thrilled to learn that the Transmission Company of Nigeria has declared the complete relocation of eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV transmission line, three days after the deadline.

In order to guarantee the return of regular power distribution to the region, it also declared the restoration of full bulk power to the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation.

On Friday, the TCN made this announcement in a statement that was signed by Ndidi Mbah, its general manager of public affairs.

On January 3, the company announced that it would be moving eight towers along the Kukwaba/Apo transmission line due to the Federal Capital Development Authority’s Road dualization project. Please remember that.

The relocation work would also need a planned power outage from Monday, January 6 to Monday, January 20, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day, according to TCN.

In order to resume the bulk power supply from the Gwagwalada Substation to the Apo Transmission Substation, it stated that this was the projected time needed to disassemble and rebuild the towers and restring the power cables.

It stated that the road completion project required the relocation of the transmission towers and promised that power would be restored as soon as the towers’ relocation and cable stringing were finished.

AEDC can now resume regular electricity supply from the substation to its customers in the affected areas, thereby ending the previously implemented load rationing, the TCN spokesperson said, thanking the impacted customers for their patience.

According to the statement, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria is pleased to announce the restoration of full bulk power to its 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation, effective Thursday, January 23, 2025.

“This restoration follows the successful relocation of eight 132kV and 33kV towers along the Kukwaba/Apo 132kV line (Southern Expressway route), necessitated by the Federal Capital Development Agency’s road dualization project along the Apo axis.

“The two-week relocation work, which commenced on Monday, January 6, 2025, involved dismantling, and reconstructing the towers, as well as restringing power cables.

“With the restoration of full bulk power, Abuja DisCo can now provide normal electricity supply from the substation to its customers in the affected areas, ending the previous load rationing.

“TCN appreciates the patience and understanding of the affected electricity consumers during this period.”
