The wife of retired Assistant Inspector General of Police Hakeem Odumusu, Mrs. Folashade Odumusu, was recently abducted, and the Nigeria Police played a crucial part in saving her. Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, has praised the Nigeria.

Within a week of the operation, the victim was safely released without any injuries, some of the kidnappers were neutralized, and weapons and ransom were recovered.

In a statement released on Friday through X, Obi commended the Ogun State Police Command for their professionalism, pointing out that the rescue operation highlighted the police’s capacity to respond effectively when given the right motivation.

He stated, “I commend the Nigeria Police for their swift and effective response in rescuing Mrs Folashade Odumusu, the wife of retired AIG Hakeem Odumusu, who was kidnapped just a few days ago. The operation, conducted within a week, highlights their capacity to act decisively when motivated.

“What stands out is the precision with which the rescue mission was executed. It not only led to the safe release of the victim, unharmed, but also resulted in the neutralisation of some kidnappers, the recovery of weapons, and the retrieval of the ransom. Such a professional outcome deserves high praise.”

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, demonstrated extraordinary interest in the case, and the Ogun State Police Command also conveyed gratitude for the technical assistance obtained from Force Headquarters.

The Ogun Command was praised by the IGP for breaking up the criminal organization responsible for the kidnapping.

Obi claims that this achievement highlights the value of effective motivation and leadership in combating crime.

“This incident offers hope. It proves that these issues can be tackled effectively if security personnel are well-resourced, supported, and committed to their responsibilities.”

Nonetheless, Obi called on the police to treat cases involving regular Nigerians, whose suffering frequently goes unrecognized, with the same professionalism and emphasis.

“Many innocent citizens remain victims of abduction, languishing in captivity without rescue efforts reaching them,” he said.

He added that the operation’s success was evidence of Nigeria’s security architecture’s potential when properly prioritized and managed.
