The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) management has terminated the locum radiographer’s employment after a patient passed away there.

The radiographer was fired for failing to perform her duties.

A reliable source, who requested anonymity, informed Newsmen in Calabar on Wednesday that the employee was fired for not supplying the emergency X-ray room key.

“The deceased was rushed to the hospital last night and was immediately examined by the emergency team.

“When they were done with their job, they invited the radiographer to examine the patient lungs at the emergency X-ray room but he could not find the key to the room.

“After several hours, the patient went into coma and subsequently died.

“The dad story is that the dismissed radiographer could not provide any explanation on the X-ray room key.”

In a letter dated January 22, the hospital administration ended the locum radiographer’s employment a few hours after the patient passed away.

Although sources were certain that the termination of the appointment was related to the patient’s death, no explanation was provided in the letter signed by Dr. Maria Bassey, the hospital’s director of administration.

The letter reads, “This is to inform you that your services in the UCTH as a radiographer are no longer required. Consequently, your appointment is hereby terminated with immediate effect.”
