In the Ndieguzu Agalegu Omege community in the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, at least ten homes were destroyed and at least one person was killed on Saturday night.
The community was attacked by alleged thugs, resulting in numerous injuries.
According to reports, a conflict broke out in the council area between the residents of Omege Agalagu and Ukwuinyima.
A community source claimed that the battle that broke out in November 2024 during the burial of a lady who had supposedly been raped and killed was the origin of the conflict, however specifics of what caused the fights were still unknown.
More than ten homes and other properties valued at millions of Naira have been reduced to ashes,Al according to the source.
The state’s police public relations officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed on Sunday that the tragedy claimed one life.
He claimed that after a fight between two young people from the two communities, one from Omege was stabbed.
“He, however, died later in hospital.
“His death led to members of his community attacking Omege and burning down some mud houses with thatch roofs.“
But Police mobilised and stopped them from inflicting further damage. The crisis has been curtailed at the moment.”
According to a police spokesperson, the Command’s agents were upholding law and order in the area and had started an investigation. He said, the man who stabbed the deceased victim was also taken into custody.
