A wave of violence swept through South Sudan this week, resulting in the tragic deaths of three individuals and leaving seven others injured.

The clashes erupted in the capital city, Juba, as well as in the north-western town of Aweil, following revenge attacks targeting Sudanese nationals. In response to the escalating violence, South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir has issued a call for calm, urging citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

“We must not allow anger and retaliation to dictate our actions,” President Kiir stated during a press briefing.

“It is crucial that we uphold the rule of law and maintain peace in our communities.”

To mitigate the unrest, authorities have enacted a dusk-to-dawn curfew, which will be in effect from 6 PM to 6 AM

. This measure is designed to prevent further violence and protect both public and private property. Security forces have been deployed to enforce the curfew and restore order amid rising tensions.

The violence is reportedly a reaction to recent attacks on South Sudanese civilians in Sudan, highlighting the fragile state of relations between the two nations.

The situation remains fluid, with local authorities urging residents to remain indoors during the curfew hours and report any suspicious activities.

As South Sudan grapples with internal conflicts and the ramifications of regional tensions, the government is under pressure to address the underlying issues that contribute to such outbreaks of violence. Community leaders are calling for dialogue and reconciliation efforts to heal the divisions exacerbated by recent events.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation, with calls for restraint and support for peaceful solutions. As the country faces this critical moment, the hope for stability and peace remains paramount for the people of South Sudan.
