
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his gratitude to the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) for their unanimous endorsement of four Tax Reform Bills currently being reviewed by the National Assembly.
In a statement released on Saturday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), Tinubu praised the governors for their “bold leadership and commitment to fostering unity among leaders across the nation, transcending regional, ethnic, and political barriers to drive Nigeria’s development forward.
”The statement highlighted that the recent productive discussions between the NGF and the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy exemplify the cooperative spirit between Federal and State governments.
President Tinubu extended particular commendations to the Chairman of the Governors’ Forum, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, for his effective efforts in rallying support among his fellow governors for these transformative tax bills aimed at revitalizing the national economy and improving Nigeria’s investment climate.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Progressive Governors Forum, the Northern Governors Forum, and other groups that facilitated the bipartisan resolution of the issues surrounding the tax bills.
The President emphasized that the primary goal of the Tax Reform Bills is to promote national interests, enhance the competitiveness of Nigeria’s economy, and attract both local and foreign investments.
He stressed the importance of updating the country’s outdated tax laws to achieve these objectives.
Furthermore, President Tinubu noted that the dialogue between the NGF and the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy Reform demonstrates the effectiveness of constructive conversation in resolving differences.
The statement concluded with President Tinubu recognizing the governors as essential partners in nation-building and reaffirming his commitment to collaborating with them to foster economic growth, national harmony, peace, and stability.
He encouraged other stakeholders with insights and suggestions for refining the Tax Bills to actively participate in the ongoing legislative process at the National Assembly.
