Niger’s governor, Umaru Bago, has prohibited heavy-duty vehicles from traveling one-way routes through Dikko Bridge after a tanker explosion on Saturday that left numerous people dead.

While visiting the site of the explosion at Dikko crossroads in the state’s Suleja local government district, the governor issued the order.
While expressing sorrow at the deaths, he called the incident pathetic.
However, he expressed relief that it did not spread to nearby areas.
Just as he ordered that cars from the Maje axis not use Dikko Bridge, Bago criticized the carelessness of some drivers.
Instead, he advised the cars to make a U-turn and travel the path beneath the bridge.
The governor requested that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector commander form a detachment in the region to carry out the order.
Additionally, he called on transport unions to work with the FRSC.
Bago urged the federal government to move quickly on the Minna-Suleja Road project, blaming the area’s high accident rate on the project’s delayed completion.
He gave the state’s Emergency Management Agency, Fire Service, FRSC, and National Union of Road Transport Workers high marks for their contributions to the explosion victims’ evacuation.
In order to help treat the injured victims who are presently undergoing treatment at Suleja General Hospital, he announced that physicians from Minna hospitals will be repurposed.
