Ondo State’s local government election commenced on Saturday, with a strong security presence throughout the state.
Personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Nigerian police were seen at voting stations and other key locations, according to the source.
Up until seven in the morning, security guards were spotted at key locations along the state’s main thoroughfares, such as the Airport Road in Akure North LGA and in front of the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC), Akure.
Also at Agbogbo roundabout, Fiwasaye/Mobil intersection and in front of the A Division, Nigeria Police, on Oba Adesida Road, teams of security officers were spotted executing the restriction of movement order as they turned back vehicles and persons who were not on vital responsibilities.
In Okitipupa and surrounds, members of security agencies were also observed on main roadways as well as at several polling units.
The source claims that while some residents went about their daily lives, some young people were spotted playing soccer at the Ijapo Housing Estate field and at Ward 10 Unit, Odo-Ikoyi in Akure South LGA.
In certain parts of the state, business activity was also observed as food vendors and store owners opened for business.
