The government of Plateau State has put 20 tractors into service for farming communities throughout the state in an effort to guarantee food security and the state’s citizens’ economic empowerment.

Following the Plateau State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL) Day/CRF disbursement at the New Government House, Rayfield, Jos, Governor Caleb Mutfwang stated during the commissioning ceremony that the tractors would be used efficiently to benefit the state and its citizens.

According to him, the government has plans to acquire more than 200 tractors through the Plateau Agricultural Development Programme in order to increase agricultural production and guarantee food security.

Governor Mutfwang gave ten towns a $250,000 Community Revolving Fund (CRF) check in addition to commissioning tractors.

The goal of this program, which is funded by the World Bank and the state government under ACReSAL, is to give rural people financial empowerment.

In order to strengthen other communities throughout the state, each town was given $25,000. The money was to be returned after a predetermined amount of time.

Guratop, Kerang, Zamko, Ampang West, Dinting, Jimin, Kaler, Plateau Club/Bingham, Pishe, Yashi, and Wereh are among the communities that would benefit.

The governor addressed the communities and tasked them with making the best use of the cash, stressing that the initiative’s goal was to establish a revolving financial opportunity for more extensive community development.

“I want to thank the World Bank for the initiatives you’ve introduced on the Plateau. Let me assure you that by the grace of God, none of these projects will fail. We are committed to ensuring that the funds and equipment are judiciously used to uplift our people.

“Beyond implementing projects, our focus is to ensure that these investments lift our people out of poverty. The bottom line is to improve the standard of living of our people by reducing poverty,” the governor said.

Mutfwang warned against dividing tendencies that impede growth and urged Plateau State residents to band together in support of government projects. He also emphasized the necessity of cultivating every accessible plot of land during the upcoming growing season, particularly in schools.

Dr. Ndiame Diop, the World Bank’s country director for Nigeria, commended the recipient communities and emphasized the significance of tackling the negative impacts of climate change on agriculture.
