The state police command will not tolerate any acts of violence during tomorrow’s local government election, according to Ondo State Commissioner of Police Mr. Wilfred Afolabi.

The Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission has set Saturday as the polling day. The Peoples Democratic Party, the state’s main opposition party, has opted not to run in the election.

The CP told reporters Friday at the command headquarters in Akure, the state capital, that the command was prepared to ensure that the election was free of violence.

The police boss said, “All of us (policemen), including me, are deployed for the election. We are all going to be at work tomorrow. We are ready for the election, including all the sister security agencies; all of us will be at work.”

Dr. Joseph Aremo, the Chairman of the ODIEC, has reaffirmed that there would be no security breaches during the election since the commission has put safeguards in place to protect people and property before, during, and after the vote.

“Because there is an impression that even having voted, there is not going to be security of property, that people may not come out to vote.

“Now, with the meeting we have had, with all the strategies I have put in place, I can assure you that the election is going to be seamless and peaceful,” Aremo said.
