Chief Edozie Njoku, a former polarizing chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), left the party on Friday to become the new National Chairman of the National Rescue Mission (NRM).

Njoku was chosen at an emergency convention organized by the NRM in Abuja, which was overseen by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Njoku lost the APGA leadership to Mr. Sly Ezeokenwa following a lengthy court struggle that was resolved by the Supreme Court in November of last year.

The election came when former NRM Chairman Ambassador Isaac Udeh decided to resign and become the party’s National Organizing Secretary.

He insisted that with Njoku leading the charge, NRM would emerge as the nation’s third major force in upcoming elections.

Njoku praised Ambassador Udeh for “a huge sacrifice for the greater good” and for his selflessness in his post-election statements.

The newly appointed NRM Chairman promised to put in a lot of effort to restructure and reposition the party for upcoming elections, beginning with the upcoming Anambra state governorship race.

In addition to thanking INEC for sending representatives to observe the convention, Njoku promised that the NRM will put forth respectable candidates who would help the party win in the nation’s upcoming elections.

Other party national leaders elected during the convention were Mr. Freedom Okechukwu as the Deputy National Chairman (South) and Mr. A.D. Musa as the Deputy National Chairman (North).
