Clement Adewale Adeyemi Oluyide, 29, passed away on Thursday while playing football at the 5th Isiaka Adeleke Memorial Cup final competition in Osun State at the Ataoja School of Science in Osogbo.

Oluyide, a football player from Ikinyinwa-Ijesa, incidentally passed away on his birthday anniversary while attempting to win a prize to commemorate his 29th birthday.

Midfielder Oluyide slumped on the pitch as his team was getting ready to take a free kick against the Ejigbo local government area squad.

The Osun State Police Command announced Adewale Oluyide’s death in a statement released on Thursday by its Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Yemisi Olawoyin Opalola.

On the pitch at Ataoja School of Science, Adeyemi Adewale Oluyide of the Ilesa West local government area football team collapsed, according to Opalola.

He was taken to Osun State University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo, where he was pronounced dead. His remains were placed at the hospital mortuary, the police official added.

Since all public activities were halted in remembrance of the community’s dead famous son, the tragic tragedy has plunged Ikinyinwa-Ijesa into sadness.

Neither the Osun State administration nor the tournament organisers have released an official statement honouring the late Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke, the state’s first executive governor.
