Manchester United icon Dwight Yorke has urged his old club to consider chasing Rafael Leao’s signature in exchange for Marcus Rashford.

England forward Rashford is believed to be in talks with AC Milan over a potential move this month, having been outcasted at Old Trafford. A possible loan with intention to buy has been mooted, though United would prefer a permanent sale if they were to cash in on the forward.

Yorke, 53, questioned why AC Milan would want Rashford when they already have Leao, but he went on to tout the idea of a trade between the two clubs. However, he stressed any incoming player would need to fit into head coach Ruben Amorim’s system so they can effectively deliver results.

“I’m not sure why AC Milan want Marcus Rashford as he’s a left-winger and they have Rafael Leao already,” he told Coin Casino (via The Mirror). “These giant clubs, like AC Milan, don’t bring in big players to be a squad member, they will be bringing in Rashford as a starter. Maybe Man United should bring in Rafael Leao in return, but he’d have to fit Ruben Amorim’s system and produce results on the pitch.”

Like Amorim, Leao has a history with Sporting CP and could potentially fit in well at United under a fellow Portuguese speaker. That’s something he also shares in common with new manager Sergio Conceicao, however, and the ex-Porto boss will be determined to keep his countryman in Milan.

Currently valued at £63million, Leao has arguably been Milan’s most consistent star asset for some time, with only Theo Hernandez challenging that position. Rumours over the past 18 months have tipped the winger for a possible exit, but Milan will have the final say on his departure as he is contracted until 2028 and has no release clause in said deal.
