On Thursday, residents of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, gathered for a candlelight march down Aderinola Street and Adeyi Avenue in remembrance of the 2024 Ibadan bombing victims.

At least five people lost their lives in the Bodija Estate catastrophe a year ago, which also left over 50 homes and other cars in serious damage.

Illegal miners kept explosives in a residential unit, which led to the explosion.

In response to the tragedy, Governor Seyi Makinde blamed it on carelessness and established a 10-member committee in December to supervise the allocation of rescue cash.

He made it clear that the support was intended to help the victims, not to make up for it.

The Bodija Estate Residents’ Association made plans to honor the victims public last week.

The association revealed the names and faces of the five deceased during an interdenominational memorial ceremony Thursday at the Bodija Estate Baptist Church.

To further commemorate their memory, a Jumat prayer is planned for Friday at the Bodija Central Mosque.
