According to Joseph Aloba, the father of the late musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known by his stage name Mohbad, his life significantly improved after his son’s untimely death.
On September 11, 2023, Mohbad passed away under dubious circumstances at the age of 26.In a Tuesday interview with media personality Akin Abolade, better known by his stage name Mrlilgaga, Mr. Aloba considered the changes in his life and credited them to the spirit of his deceased son and supernatural intervention.
“Let me just say yes, my life got better after Mohbad’s death because he is my friend. He had it in plan to do many things for me but they didn’t allow him to do them. After his death, it was the spirit of Mohbad, and that of God combined together that began to send people to assist me,” he said.
He disclosed that his newfound assets including a car, truck and other items were gifted to him by compassionate Nigerians. “Even the car and everything I have now, it was people that gave them to me and it is beyond ordinary. So it is the spirit of Mohbad and God that led those people to give me all I have now,” he added.
Aloba also discussed Mohbad’s predeath hardships, pointing out that his son’s plans were frequently derailed.
He said that a large portion of the late singer’s property was controlled by Wunmi, Mohbad’s wife, and her relatives.
“They did a lot concerning that boy (Mohbad). All his landed property is in their possession. Even the land he bought for me to build a church, I forced him to buy and mould the blocks on it, which was later used to bury him,” he said.
Aloba also recalled how Mohbad had intended to buy him a house after his tour was over, adding that the purchase had already been paid for before his death.
Looking back on his life’s journey, Aloba said that the birth of Mohbad was a turning point; he became a singer after the money from Mohbad’s naming ceremony was stolen, and his late son was his backup vocalist from the age of one.
A pastor, carpenter, and singer without a physical church, Aloba claimed that Mohbad had promised to construct a church for him before his tragic death.
Aloba has put out nine songs since Mohbad’s passing, and Nigerians have supported him.
