On Wednesday, protesting students from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta, Ogun State, attacked Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele’s convoy.

Salako-Oyedele was traveling to the 35 Artillery Brigade Alabama, Abeokuta, to represent the state governor, Dapo Abiodun, at the event commemorating the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebrations when the irate students reportedly attacked her convoy.

In the process of upholding law and order, the students injured some of the deputy governor’s security personnel and destroyed some of her vehicles.

In a statement released in Abeokuta, Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, acknowledged the attack.

Despite every attempt by security personnel to appease them, the angry students, armed with sticks and other dangerous missiles, attacked the deputy governor’s van, according to Akinmade.

“Immediately the students realised it was the deputy governor, they became even more restive and rushed to attack her convoy with intention of demobilising it, despite her security operatives as well as other police officers persuasion to stay calm and allow the convoy pass,” Akinmade said.

He added that before leaving for the event she was supposed to attend, the deputy governor had to immediately make a diversion to her lodging so that the students who were protesting may pass without incident.

According to Akinmade, the students obstructed traffic by blocking the road.
