Crystal Palace announced on its official website that Sierra Leonean-born center defender Trevoh Chalobah has returned to his parent club Chelsea.
The former England U21 international was scheduled to spend the entire season at Selhurst Park, but the Blues used their option to recall him owing to defensive injuries.
Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, both central defenders, are out with hamstring problems and will be unavailable for selection in the future games, while another Frenchman, Axel Disasi, has been linked with a move to Juventus.
Trevoh Chalobah’s return from a loan spell at Crystal Palace adds another layer of rivalry for Tosin Adarabioyo in Chelsea.
Tosin will now compete for a center-back slot with Chalobah, Levi Colwill, and Josh Acheampong. Due to Fofana’s injury, the Nigeria Football Federation target has started five of Chelsea’s last eight Premier League games, after starting only two of the previous thirteen.
Chelsea’s Cobham academy produced Chalobah, Colwill, and Acheampong, while Tosin joined Stamford Bridge last summer after his Fulham contract expired.
Tosin’s Premier League appearances were limited prior to Fofana’s injury, but he got significant experience in cup tournaments, starting eight out of eleven games.
Tosin has three goals this season, tying his career-high total in a single season since turning professional.
