According to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, or NCAA, 2024 saw the largest number of reimbursements to passengers.
On Nigeria Info FM, Mr. Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, revealed this and promised refunds to travelers who reported it to them.
Additionally, he maintained that there was no excuse for disruptive passenger behavior and that there were procedures in place for travelers to denounce airlines for mistreating them.
Achimugu said, “The procedure (for refund) is straightforward. First, you complain to the airline. Where they fail to resolve, you report to the NCAA. Every single day, refunds are being paid. As a matter of fact, in 2024, we were able to achieve the highest volume of refunds and compensations in the history of the NCAA.
“Two weeks ago, I announced the initiation of sanctions against five airlines – three domestic, two international and that was the first time in over a decade for consumer protection-related issues. We had positive feedback over that. There is no justification for unruly passenger behaviour anywhere in the world and that is why there are mechanisms in place for you to report every disservice meted out on you at the airport.”
