The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has presented the instrument of power and staff of office to The New Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade at the governor’s office, Secretariat, Ibadan, this Morning.
Makinde approved the Emergence of the Oba last week Friday after consultations, divination and recommendation by the Oyomesi ( The kingmakers)
However, 5( Five) members of the Oyomesi had opposed Prince Owoade’s emergence, claiming it was illegal.
With the presentation of staff of office, His Imperial Majesty Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade is now the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.
Meanwhile this development has got tongues wagging, Some in wild jubilation and some expressing reservations.
That the event was done at the governor’s office hurriedly and seemingly covertly without public notification and expected funfair raises suspicion and concerns in some quarters
The event was attended by the deputy governor Barrister Bayo-Lawal, former Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, some High Chiefs from Oyo Town, religious leaders and others.
it is however uncertain if the presentation of staff of office to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade will put to finality the controversies, litigation and rancour the Alaafin selection process has generated.
