The Deputy Speaker of the Ebonyi House of Assembly, Mr. Chinedu Onah, lost his personal assistant, Ifeanyichukwu Eze, in a traffic accident on the Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway.

The event was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday by Mr. Chinonso Nwede, the Secretary of the Deputy Speaker’s Legislative Aides Forum.

He said the incident happened as Eze was coming from a wake for the deceased with three other legislative assistants and one other individual.

“The wake was held in support of a friend whose mother’s funeral was held on January 11,” Nwede stated.

“Sadly, Eze succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The four other individuals involved in the accident are still receiving treatment for their varying degrees of injuries,” he said.

Prior to his passing, Eze served as Governor Francis Nwifuru’s Youth Movement Coordinator in the Umuogudu Oshia Ward of the Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

Nwede said that Eze’s passing was “one too many and too difficult to endure,” describing it as a terrible loss for both his coworkers and the people of Ebonyi.

As Eze’s coworkers were getting ready to celebrate his completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program and other milestones, he said the occurrence was especially heartbreaking.

“Eze’s life was not without its challenges, having lost his mother at a tender age and being raised without her care.

“As the only son, his father had pinned his hopes on him, and was relieved to see him grow into a capable individual and serve as personal assistant to the fourth citizen of Ebonyi,” he said.

The deputy speaker of the Ebonyi House of Assembly and Eze’s family, especially his father, were sympathized with by Nwede.

He prayed for Eze’s soul to rest in peace and for the other accident victims to heal quickly. He also prayed for his family to have the strength to deal with the irreversible loss.
