Supporters of Mudashiru Obasa, the recently impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, caused a commotion by chanting the party anthem “On Your Mandate” while being held in a police van. The 52-year-old politician, who represented Agege Constituency I, was ousted from office on Monday amid charges of extreme misbehavior and abuse of power.

Obasa, who became speaker in 2015, was serving his third term when he was impeached. The former deputy speaker, Mojisola Meranda, has already been elected as his successor.

Following the impeachment, police arrested a number of guys who were allegedly loitering around the assembly facility. In a viral video, the imprisoned guys, speaking through the van’s window shutters, claimed to be All Progressives Congress (APC) members from the Agege Constituency.

“We came down to the assembly to visit Obasa, and they arrested us,” a man stated. “No tangible reason has been provided for apprehending us. We are approximately 20 people from Orile Agege. “We are APC youth.”
