The state’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Hon. Chukwuemeka Aaron, was fired by a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt.

The PDP’s ward, local government, and state congresses that were held in the state in July 2024 were also declared invalid by the court, which was presided over by Justice Stephen Jumbo.

Less than a month has passed since the state’s opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) ward, local government, and state congresses—which elected Chief Tony Okocha as State Chairman—were declared invalid by another High Court.

The court’s ruling came after a disagreement over the validity of PDP congresses, which were led by a group within the party that supported Chief Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

On July 20, 2024, the PDP was prevented from proceeding with the ward, local government, and state congresses by a State High Court chaired by Justice Charles Wali.
