Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has encouraged Nigerians, particularly those in opposition parties, to refrain from saying things that could instigate the populace against the government.

Oyintiloye disapproves of remarks that could cause instability in the nation, even if he acknowledges the opposition parties’ right to serve as watchdogs for the government’s programs and initiatives.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, the former Special Adviser to former Governor Gbogega Oyetola, who is currently Minister of Blue Economy, made the comments.

Oyintiloye emphasised that the Federal Government may become needlessly distracted by unfettered criticism and unfavourable remarks made by the opposition parties.

According to former congressman Oyintiloye, the administration currently needs the opposition’s constructive criticism in order to provide excellent governance.

The APC Cheiftain stated that politics of bitterness and hatred by the opposition would not in any way foster unity but rather produce division and ill emotions among Nigerians.

Oyintiloye insisted that anyone disguising themselves as opposition members and using their remarks to agitate the populace against the government ought to be viewed as an enemy of the nation.

The former member of the Osun State House of Assembly also noted that recent comments attributed to some opposition figures against President Bola Tinubu had caused unnecessary uproar.

“The truth is that we don’t have any other country except Nigeria, and that is why we need to play the role of opposition reasonably.

“Making comments that could incite the masses against the government in the name of politics is unpatriotic and should be avoided.

“Members of opposition parties have the right to criticise the government but such should be constructive to assist government to achieve its best for the people.

“If such it is done in good faith, it will keep the true essence of democracy alive, give it a chance of improving the quality of good governance and hence create a better society”, he stated.

Nonetheless, Oyintiloye urged the administration to consider constructive criticism seriously since it would help the nation and make it a model for other countries.

In order to minimise needless criticism of policies throughout their execution, he continued, the government should instill the habit of involving important stakeholders in the policy-making process.

Oyintiloye urged Nigerians to always contribute their fair share and asked for prayers and support for Tinubu to succeed in his role.
