According to Nigeria’s Transmission Company, the power fluctuations that occurred in several sections of the country on Saturday were caused by line tripping.
According to a statement issued by TCN spokeswoman Ndidi Mbah, the national grid did not collapse on Saturday. She confirmed that at 1:41 p.m., the Ihovbor line tripped, followed by the Benin-Omotosho line.
She added that the trippings solely affected the bulk power supply to the Lagos axis. Mbah added that the line tripping caused disruptions at the Egbin, Olorunsogo, Omotosho, Geregu, and Paras power stations.
While these facilities have already been restored, she stated that the restoration of the Benin-Omotosho 330kV line was still underway as of Saturday evening.
“Earlier Saturday, at approximately 13:41 hrs, the Osogbo-Ihovbor line tripped, followed by the Benin-Omotosho line. As a result, only the Lagos axis experienced disruptions in bulk supply. “It is crucial to note that at approximately 13:00 hrs on Saturday, immediately before the trip, total grid generation was 4,335.63 MW.
Following the trippings, however, generation fell to 2,573.23 MW, demonstrating that the system did not fail. “The transmission line tripping impacted the Egbin, Olorunsogo, Omotosho, Geregu, and Paras power plants.
All of these have been restored with the exception of the Benin-Omotosho 330kV line, which is still being repaired,” Mbah remarked.
