Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo’s spokesperson, Mr. Laolu Akande, has said that there is no cause for anyone to assume that Osinbajo has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) or quit politics. In an interview with reporters in Lagos on Sunday, Akande clarified this.

Since leaving office in 2023, Osinbajo has kept a low profile in politics, which has raised questions over whether he is still involved in politics or has disengaged from the APC. Due to his frequent absence from political events, some observers questioned whether he was still affiliated with the ruling party.

President Bola Tinubu defeated the former vice president in the 2022 APC presidential primary. Under Tinubu’s rule as governor, he previously held the positions of Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.

While some political experts attribute Osinbajo’s primary loss to his diminished political visibility, others think his recent position as Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP}) has caused him to change his focus.

In response to these rumors, Akande stated that Osinbajo had never told him that he had quit politics and that he was still an APC member.

The former vice president will attend any APC function that called for his attendance, he continued.

Akande said, “I don’t want to get the man (Osinbajo) involved in my own commentary, but there is no reason to think that he is no longer in the APC; he is still a member of APC. If he gets an invitation to the caucus, you know, he will be there. I don’t know about him leaving the party.”
