Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa rallied support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for chairman, vice-chairman, and councillor across the state’s 18 local government areas on Friday, ahead of the general elections scheduled for January 18.
Ahead of the Ondo local government elections, party stakeholders convened in the Governor’s Office in Akure’s Cocoa Conference Hall to strategize.
Governor Aiyedatiwa began by observing a minute of silence in remembrance of Hon. Temitayo Oluwatuyi, the late Secretary to the State Government, whose exceptional contributions to the state’s growth were praised.
Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized in his speech the significance of building on the achievements of the previous governorship election.
He said, “We have set a strong foundation as a party, and it is now up to us to build on it. This election is not just about winning but about proving that our party remains the leading voice of the people. I assure you of my unwavering support as we head to the polls, but I urge you to avoid overconfidence. Let us remain focused and strategic in our approach.
He emphasized the necessity to maintain the effective governance already in place in the state and counseled the candidates in the Ondo LG polls to exhibit commitment and skill in both their campaigns and future positions.
“Show commitment to our party and the people. Our citizens are watching. They want leaders who will not only represent them well but also deliver on their promises. Prove your capacity and capability to make a difference at the grassroots level”, he added.
The State APC Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, had earlier in his welcoming speech congratulated the candidates on their rise to power and reminded them of the great duty that lies ahead.
“This is a defining moment for all of you. You carry the trust and hopes of the party and the people. Do not disappoint us. Be good ambassadors of the APC, and above all, do not betray the trust reposed in you,” he said.
Gbenga Fasua, the APC candidate for Akure South, responded on behalf of the candidates and thanked the governor and the party leadership for giving them the chance to run. Adetimehin also urged them to step up their grassroots campaigns in order to win the Ondo LG elections and advance the party’s agenda of good governance.
