Peoples Democratic Party leader Emmanuel Fayose has declared his desire to run for governor of Ekiti State.

This information was revealed by Fayose, the immediate younger brother of Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of the state, in a statement provided to reporters on Friday.

He claimed that his determination to run for office sprang from his wish to revitalize Ekiti and put the state back on the path of progress.

“I’m running to overthrow the Oyebanji-led government, and if I win, I’ll run an inclusive government that will lead Ekiti in the right direction,” he stated.

Fayose asserted that the recent meeting in Lagos between President Bola Tinubu and his brother, Ayodele Fayose, had given him even more motivation.

The former governor reportedly told the president at the meeting that he would help the incumbent retake power, a move that his party members in Ekiti have since called anti-party.

Fayose did point out that the “bad” news did not lower his spirits.

Rather, he pledged to surprise him by choosing the PDP form, confident that the people of Ekiti would support him till the very end.

“Like everyone else, I read about the meeting in the newspapers, and I would like to clarify that it has nothing to do with my aspirations,” he stated.

Since the former governor is my older brother and is simply exercising his Democratic right to free will, the meeting will not have any bearing on my bid because “his choice and preferences will not and cannot in any way impact negatively on my bid as we are separate entities pursuing different goals.”

Fayose added that the PDP will retake power in 2026 to rebuild the state and urged his followers in the state to continue to be firm and determined in their pursuit of constructive change.

Therefore, my brother is on his own, and it is up to our wonderful party’s leadership to decide whether he is loyal to the APC or our PDP.

In order to bring about the necessary change in our state, he said, “I am, however, using the opportunity provided by this platform to urge our gathered supporters to remain firm and resolute and to not be distracted in any way.”
