Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu reached a new milestone in the state’s pursuit of sustainable growth and development on Thursday when he signed the ₦3.366 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill into law.
An additional ₦360.88 billion was added to the governor’s original plan when the Lagos State House of Assembly previously approved an updated budget of ₦3.37 trillion.
The administration’s THEMES+ agenda serves as the framework for the bill, which places a high priority on infrastructure, economic growth, and social inclusion.
It is based on five main pillars: governance reform, economic diversification, social inclusion and human capital development, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure sustainability.
He emphasised the significance of cooperation between the government and legislature in implementing the budget, characterising it as a vital instrument for furthering the administration’s objective of a “Greater Lagos.”
“This is another chance to increase impact for Lagosians, and it will be the second of four budgets during my second term,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
Sanwo-Olu thanked the Lagos State House of Assembly for passing the budget so quickly during the signing event at the State House in Ikeja.
He said, “We remain committed to delivering a budget that ensures the greatest good for the greatest number of people.
₦1.295 trillion will be used for recurring expenses, while ₦2.07 trillion, or 62% of the total, would be allocated for capital expenditures.
This emphasis highlights the state’s resolve to improve the standard of living for citizens and expedite infrastructure development, according to Sanwo-Olu.
He also urged Lagos residents to do their bit by protecting public infrastructure and cautioning against negligence and vandalism.
“We must take care of the infrastructure we provide as joint owners because it belongs to all of us,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu commended the work of all parties involved in making sure the budget was prepared thoroughly, including the Lagos State House of Assembly, the Ministry of Economic Planning, and the Ministry of Finance.
He reassured them that, as demonstrated by prior budgets, the administration is committed to reaching an implementation rate of 90–95%.
“We are certain that this budget, which is the biggest sub-national budget in the nation, will have a substantial impact on every part of Lagos State,” Sanwo-Olu continued. Reiterating the administration’s commitment to prudently allocating resources for the benefit of all Lagosians, the governor challenged the public service, civil service, and other stakeholders to achieve an excellent level of execution in 2025.
