West Ham United has parted ways with manager Julen Lopetegui after just six months at the helm.

The club is currently in discussions with Graham Potter, the former Chelsea and Brighton boss, regarding a potential appointment as his successor.

Lopetegui, 58, took charge of the Hammers in May after the departure of David Moyes, with his official start date marked as July 1.

During his time in charge, West Ham managed to secure only six victories in the Premier League.

The club’s struggles continued with a disappointing 4-1 defeat against Manchester City on Saturday, marking their ninth loss in 20 league matches this season.

This result left West Ham sitting in 14th place, just seven points clear of the relegation zone.

In an official statement, West Ham acknowledged that “the first half of the 2024-25 season has not aligned with the club’s ambitions,” prompting the board to take decisive action in pursuit of their goals.

Additionally, Lopetegui’s entire coaching staff has also been released, including assistant coach Pablo Sanz, head of performance Oscar Caro, head analyst Juan Vicente Peinado, fitness coach Borja de Alba, and technical coach Edu Rubio.

West Ham United Football Club, established in 1895, has a rich and storied history in English football.

Initially founded as Thames Ironworks FC, the club rebranded as West Ham United in 1900 and joined the Southern League.

They moved to the Football League in 1919.West Ham has had considerable success in domestic and European competitions.

The club won the FA Cup three times: in 1964, 1975, and 1980.

They also achieved glory in Europe by winning the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1965, defeating 1860 Munich in the final.

The team’s most recognized achievement in the Premier League era came in the 1985-86 season when they finished third in the top flight, narrowly missing out on the title.

Although West Ham has not won the Premier League since its inception in 1992, they have consistently been competitive and have enjoyed various successful campaigns.
