The bride and her ex-lover were arrested two weeks after a wedding ceremony in Jigawa State went horribly wrong, killing one guest and seriously injuring the groom.
On January 3, 2025, ireport247news reported on the incident that occurred in the State’s Jahun Local Government Area. Witnesses speculated that the bride might have acted out of personal resentment.
The state police public relations officer, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident and said an investigation was underway after a bride in Jigawa State allegedly poisoned food served at the reception, leaving the groom critically ill and one of the wedding guests dead.
But according to the police’s initial investigation, the bride, 15-year-old Zahra’u Dauda, and her ex-lover, 22-year-old Lawan Musa, allegedly plotted to contaminate the groom’s food.
According to police investigations thus far, “the 29-year-old groom, Kamisu Haruna, and two of his friends ate the food together, resulting in stomachaches.” At the hospital, one of the friends was pronounced dead.
In a statement released on Saturday, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer, verified the two suspects’ arrests and revealed their identities.
Adam declared, “In relation to the purported food poisoning incident, we have taken the bride and her ex-lover into custody.”
Both the husband and his two buddies experienced stomachaches as a result of sharing the meal and the victims were taken to the hospital, the attending physician confirmed the death of one of the groom’s buddies. According to the SP Adam statement, the case is being investigated.
As a result, Adam disclosed that another investigation was under progress and that the police were making every effort to ascertain the truth.
He emphasized, “We will exert every effort to guarantee that justice is done.”
