In Owo, the headquarters of the Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, there have been reports of four people—including a woman and her baby—being slain in a fight between rival cult groups.
According to reports, two more people were shot during the confrontation on Monday, January 6, 2025, including prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) leader Fisayo Oladipo, also known as Fissey Ehin Ogbe).
The woman and infant were apparently struck by stray bullets fired by the suspected cultists, according to information obtained.
The fatalities were killed during the many hours of intermittent gunfire in several areas of the town, according to a community eyewitness.
The witness remarked, “We are grateful that there are no students present because we have been hearing gunshots and it was reported that some people were killed early this morning.”
According to reports, the deceased’s remains were placed at the Federal Medical Center’s morgue in Owo.
Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the State Police Command spokesperson, confirmed the event and stated that police officers had been sent to the area to defuse the tension.
