The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has denied a misleading report purportedly cooked by mischief maker(s) claiming that the Commission is considering the destruction of over six million uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs).
In an official statement on the commission’s X handle ( formerly Twitter), it expresses thus: “Our attention has been drawn to a newspaper report that the Commission is contemplating the destruction of over six million uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) going back to the 2015 voter registration. “
“The report is incorrect. At no time did the Commission contemplate the destruction of uncollected PVCs. The public is advised to discountenance the story.”

The issue of uncollected PVCs has been a persistent challenge for INEC.
Over the years, millions of PVCs have remained unclaimed by eligible voters, which raises concerns about voter participation and the integrity of the electoral process.
Although The Commission has made considerable repeated efforts to encourage citizens to collect their PVCs, which are crucial for exercising their democratic rights, millions of the cards remains uncollected.
There have been series of fake news and campaign of calumny against INEC, aimed at undermining and disparaging the Commission’s credibility and that of the electoral process in Nigeria.
Such misinformation can have detrimental effects, as it may discourage voter registration and participation in the electoral process, thereby instilling fear and confusion among the electorates.
