Men from the Ogun State police command have detained Akintoye Waris on suspicion of stealing and killing a N200,000 Savannah he-goat for the purpose of naming his child.
Newsmen were informed by the command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, that Waris and his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf, were taken into custody on January 2, 2025, in the Odeda Area of the state.
After making sure that the farm owner, Mark, had taken the cattle for grazing on December 25, Odutola claims that the suspects broke onto a nearby property to steal the goat.
Odutola claimed that a search was carried out around the neighborhood when it was discovered that one of the goats was missing upon his return.
According to the police, other people reported seeing the two suspects on a motorcycle toward Olodo town with the missing goat.
Detectives were sent out right away in response to the information, according to Odutola, and the perpetrators were apprehended in the wee hours of January 2, 2025.
”The defendants admitted to the crime during questioning, describing how they took, moved, and killed the he-goat on December 27, 2024.
They revealed that meals for Akintoye Waris’s daughter’s naming ceremony, which took place at Olodo, was prepared using the goat.
At the Odeda Divisional Crime branch, the suspects are presently being held and the subject of additional investigation.
