Assaults on its officers and men will no longer be tolerated, according to the Nigeria Police Force.
Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, made this statement on Friday while visiting the Enugu State Command.
Egbetokun declared that the force would respond “appropriately” to any assault on police officers.
The police chief clarified that attacks on officers were not only illegal but also an attack on the organisation as a whole, promising that the force would act as a unit to respond to any murder or attack on its members and see to it that justice was done.
“Any assault on our police officers, not to mention murder,” he declared.
We will not tolerate any act of attack on our officers, let alone the murdering of any of them.
An assault on a police officer is illegal and constitutes an assault on the Inspector General.
You must all react responsibly and collectively whenever a police officer is killed.
We must respond in a suitable manner. There must be a suitable reaction when a police officer is attacked.
“We will no longer put up with it. We will refuse to tolerate assaults on our cops in 2025. We will vehemently object to any of our men being killed.
The force was collaborating with the Federal Government to enhance the well-being of its officers, Egbetokun informed the officers.
Although he voiced concerns about a few outlaws damaging the force’s reputation, he praised the professionalism of the Enugu State police.
