Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, issued a warning against acts of lawlessness on Saturday to the young people who assaulted and destroyed the palace of Oba Jelili Olaiya, the Ajeniju of Hallelujah.

The governor then gave security services instructions to find the perpetrators.

Following a violent demonstration by some young people upset by the monarch’s appointment of an Imam, Olaiya was hurt on Friday.

To the dismay of several Ido Osun youths, he reportedly appointed a Chief Imam for his village sometime in December 2024.

However, a local source, who asked to remain anonymous for security concerns, claimed that several young people from Ido-Osun, who were upset with the installation, organized a protest against it that descended into violence.

But the demonstration descended into violence. The king was hurt, and some of the palace was damaged.

Since Ido Osun controls the region, the young people of Ido Osun opposed the monarch’s decision to erect an imam there. The palace’s grounds have been taken over by security personnel, the insider claimed.

Pieces of broken plastic chairs were scattered over a hall, which was thought to be within Ajeniju’s palace, in some of the photos taken at the protest site.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke responded to the development and expressed disapproval of the Ido Osun community’s tendency toward self-help.

He went on to say that the State Commissioner of Police had been ordered to detain the violent ringleaders and secure the locations that were causing the trouble.

In the face of continuing law enforcement, he also instructed Oba Olayinka Oyetunde, the Olojudo of Ido Osun, to summon his raging young to order.
