In Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, a young woman named Ifeoluwa Adekalu was killed on Thursday, January 2, after she was struck by an unintentionally fired bullet from a police officer’s rifle at the Okeila Police Station.
According to eyewitnesses, the nursing mother was reportedly standing across the street from the police station when the officer who had arrived from another station fired his weapon in celebration of one of his colleagues’ promotions and struck the woman.
After being taken to the hospital, the woman was pronounced dead.
The officer involved has been disarmed and detained, according to Mr. Adewale Adediran, the Ekiti State Police Commissioner who confirmed the terrible incident and was just appointed to the position of Assistant Inspector General of Police.
According to the Nigeria Police Act, the officer would be questioned, Adediran stated.
